Habitat for Humanity Crew Deconstructs Home
A vacant single-family home on 11th Avenue will soon be demolished to make way for new development. Much of it, from the front door to the basement floorboards, will find second life in homes throughout the Helena Valley. They had hoped to relocate the entire structure, but since that wasn’t feasible, Habitat decided to recycle what was still inside. Habitat for Humanity crew are disassembling the house piece by piece, salvaging the vast majority for sale in the nonprofit’s home improvement store instead of sending it to the dump. They worked quickly to tear up carpet, pull out cabinets, sinks and appliances. They also eyed windows and smaller items made of metal or copper.

Metrodome Demolition: Minnesota Vikings Football Stadium Comes Down.
It took more than two years to build the Metrodome; it took considerably less time to tear it down. Some of the wall foundations are going in, in what used to be the east parking lot. For 76 years, The San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge (known locally as the Bay Bridge) has been a complex of bridges spanning San Francisco Bay of the U.S. state of California. It has connected communities and has been part of a skyline for decades but now the eastern span is coming down. The Bay Bridge has undergone an eastern span replacement that is a construction project that will replace an unsafe cantilever portion of the Bay Bridge with a new self-anchored suspension bridge (SAS) and a pair of viaducts. Rare Military Sword Found by Construction Crew in Arkansas
A lack of parking. That is one of the consistent complaints about the River Market district. As the area continues to grow and improve, the demand for parking grows. Meeting that demand has led to an interesting discovery.
Crews doing excavation work in downtown Little Rock made an unusual find: a military sword possibly dating to the early 1800s. Workers were excavating for the construction of a new parking deck at a site that once housed the Ashley mansion, built around 1820 by the prominent lawyer and U.S. Sen. Chester Ashley. Clark Construction representatives turned over the sword to the Historic Arkansas Museum.
Seattle Construction Workers Unearth Mammoth Tusk
Construction workers have uncovered an ancient mammoth tusk while digging at a site in Seattle’s South Lake Union area. Crews digging plumbing trenches smacked into the tusk some 40 feet below ground level in Seattle’s downtown South Lake Union district. The workers quickly called the Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture, which has verified the discovery, saying it’s confident that the tusk dates back to the ice age. (more…)
State Metal Theft Statutes Publication
The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) has released its first “State Metals Theft Statutes” publication, an online compilation of all state laws related to metals theft designed to help scrap recyclers with their compliance obligations under state law. 49 states have implemented laws intended to combat the growth in metals theft over recent years. These laws impose varying requirements – including purchase restrictions, recordkeeping requirements, and oftentimes reporting and hold responsibilities on scrap metal purchasers. ISRI says that the 49 states (Alaska being the exception) have passed laws intended to combat metals thefts, each with varying requirements that affect recyclers. The information will be updated throughout the year as new state laws are passed or amended, ISRI says.
