Historic Downtown Albany Theater | Planning Director Paul Forgey told the Albany-Dougherty Inner City Authority (ADICA) at its board meeting Tuesday evening that, in all likelihood, the historic downtown Albany Theater will be demolished. During a meeting held at the Flint River Quarium, Forgey said that the deterioration of the historic theater, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, makes demolition all but inevitable. Downtown Manager and ADICA President Latoya Cutts said she would begin the process of getting demolition estimates for the historic structure. Forgey said he hates for the city to lose one of its historic treasures, but he admitted he saw little option. Cutts also updated the board on efforts to bring retail development to the Front Street property purchased by the city of Albany utilizing a revolving portion of the citys Job-Enhancement Fund.
