Scrap Metal thefts have decreased from 272 last year ( Jan. to Sept) to 215 this year, but is still very high. In regards to the high theft rate The Scrap Metal Act came into effect. Now metal collectors must obtain licenses, which in turn makes it easier to track.

Barry Gordan, the plant manager of Gordan Iron and Metal from Statesville N.C says it is great for being able to forecast. The RDL allows Gordan to tell how much time is spending doing what, for example : How much time is spent on maintenance. Gordan is hoping that with this new advancement he will have fewer maintenance problems and improved communication.

Siouxland firms break ground on S.D. scrap metal recycling facility.
TJN Enterprise breaks ground after 7 years of waiting to find land. The new site will make way for much more growth and opportunity to process, sort and ship scrap via rail and truck. The facility hopes to be completing done by fall of 2014. This could mean more opportunity for hydraulic scrap magnet and excavator scrap shear use.
