Stand Down 4 Safety

Fatalities caused by falls from elevation continue to be a leading cause of death for construction employees, accounting for 350 of the 937 construction fatalities recorded in 2015 (BLS data). Those deaths were preventable. The National Fall Prevention Stand-Down raises fall hazard awareness across the country in an effort to stop fall fatalities and injuries.

This year’s National Fall Prevention Safety Stand Down, organized by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Washington, and taking place May 8 to 12, encourages companies and workers to observe a pause during the workday for topical discussions, safety demonstrations and training in hazard recognition and fall prevention. To guide their efforts, the agency is offering a National Fall Prevention Safety Stand Down webpage with information on conducting a successful event, how to post local events and additional educational resources in English and Spanish.
