TGI Friday’s Demolition
A long shuttered TGI Friday’s restaurant on Howe Avenue in Arden-Arcade has been sold and will be demolished for a new retail building.
Tony Wood of Tiner Commercial Real Estate Services said the restaurant ran in the 7,000-square-foot building at 1229 Howe Ave for 30 years. But the collapse of Abe Alizadeh’s real estate empire led the restaurant to close in 2009. In its place, the new property owners plan an 8,000-square-foot retail building. With interest from both large and small restaurant operators, he said, the building could house one eatery or several, depending on what Pegasus wants to do. While the property was in contract for eight months, Wood said, he continued to get interest from other potential buyers, both developers and restaurant operators. Though Friday’s is gone, Wood said, he’s still trying to find a home for one piece of its history. A 60-foot vintage Pocock rowing scull that hung on one wall is still around, and Wood said he’s hoping someone will take it rather than let it be part of the demolition.
