Last year, Moley Magnetics Inc. a manufacture of Scrap Yard magnets, Shears and Grapples in Lockport, NY was visiting a customer, Don Smith of Don Smith & Sons Excavating, who was excavating and screening a scrap yard in an effort to recover ferrous and non-ferrous material previously lost underground. At first glance it seemed obvious that Don was making a great financial impact through this effort. While working part time in just one season Don recovered 750 tons of Ferrous and 250 tons of non-ferrous material. This instantly seemed like an opportunity to help all scrap yards ROI by eliminating waste due to lost materials. (more…)

More than 70 percent of the construction and demolition debris generated in the United States is recycled, according Dr. Timothy Townsend of the University of Florida, speaking at C&D World 2015, the annual meeting of the Construction & Demolition Recycling Association, Aurora, Illinois. Townsends remarks were based on a C&D white paper that his research team was commissioned to develop by the CDRA titled Benefits of C&D Recycling. (more…)

Toledo Raceway Park Demolition

Toledo Raceway Park opened in 1949 as a stock car track, but by the late 1950s had transitioned to horse racing first thoroughbreds, then harness racing. Disneyland’s Sleeping Beauty Castle looks a bit odd. The theme park still wants guests to see the castle and the clock-themed attraction with the unforgettable song, so both structures are shielded from view – by massive reproductions. Sleeping Beauty Castle, being done up with new paint and faux diamonds for this summer’s 60th anniversary, is mostly hidden with 4,500 square feet of thin-gauze fabric – adorned with a fancy sketch of the castle in the front, and a photo of the castle on the backside. TGI Friday’s Demolition

A long shuttered TGI Friday’s restaurant on Howe Avenue in Arden-Arcade has been sold and will be demolished for a new retail building.

Tony Wood of Tiner Commercial Real Estate Services said the restaurant ran in the 7,000-square-foot building at 1229 Howe Ave for 30 years. But the collapse of Abe Alizadeh’s real estate empire led the restaurant to close in 2009. In its place, the new property owners plan an 8,000-square-foot retail building. (more…)

Most of the old brick building along Sixth Avenue lay in rubble Thursday, including a portion of the exterior wall where traces of paint bearing the brewery’s logo could be seen against the faded red brick.
